Highway Care is pleased to announce the supply and installation of the first SAB-Gate in the United Kingdom in November. Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald (BBMM), in partnership with the Highways Agency, required the SAB-Gates to be installed at two strategic locations along the M4 and M5 centre reserves at Emergency Crossing Points.
On a number of sites within the Highways Agency Area 2 network, BBMM are replacing the existing central reserve steel barrier with concrete step barrier (CSB) as required by the Highways Agency Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (TD19/06). It is necessary that within the CSB barrier runs; there are Emergency Crossing Points which incorporate removable sections or gates. The SAB-Gate, used by BBMM, was introduced into the UK by Highway Care Ltd, and developed by Italian company Snoline Spa.
The SAB-Gate is a modular H2 containment gate system, which is transitioned on to the CSB. The SAB-Gate can be easily opened by only operative without the use of any special tools or the removal of any fixings. Each 4.3m SAB-Gate module can be opened either by individual sections, as a whole, or part gate from hinge positions at either end. The posts are simply winched out of the foundation and the wheels are lowered. The gate can be opened quickly regardless of which opening option is chosen. Compared with other gates on the market, the SAB-Gate is a more practical and user-friendly system. BBMM, in partnership with the Highways Agency, and in close collaboration with Highway Care are proud to have been instrumental in introducing the SAB-Gate onto the highways network.
